They couldn't wait any longer. The ceremony wasn't actually scheduled to start until around 19:30 p.m., but shortly after 19:00 p.m., four members of Judas Priest arrived backstage at the Olympic Hall to immortalise themselves on their plaque for the Munich Olympic Walk of Stars. The grand masters of heavy metal, who first thrilled their fans at the Olympic Hall in 1988, were in high spirits and joked around during a relaxed chat with the MOWOS team. Then frontman and singer Rob Halford, guitarist Richie Faulkner, bassist Ian Hill and drummer Scott Travis pressed their eight hands into the liquid concrete.
But that wasn't the end of the story. A few weeks after the ceremony, the band's management got in touch again – at the request of Glenn Tipton, the guitarist who is no longer able to tour due to Parkinson's disease. Tipton had heard about his bandmates being immortalised at MOWOS and was determined to leave his mark too. So he got some black hand paint, pressed his hands onto a sketchpad and sent it by post to Munich. Although the paper with Tipton's handprint cannot be embedded next to his band's floor slab, it is guaranteed a worthy and permanent place here in the virtual gallery. Thank you, Glenn.
